The AR-15: Americans’ Best Defense Against Terror and Crime?

In this informative video, NRA News contributor Dom Raso, a former Navy SEAL and founder of Dynamis Alliance, reminds us that the AR-15 is the best defense against terror and crime — and he points out that banning AR-15s wouldn’t have prevented most of the recent terror attacks.

Raso also offers his common-sense solution to stemming the tide of terror: Law-abiding citizens prepared to deal with the imminent threats.

Raso highlight quote: “After the attack at Pulse night club in Orlando, Hillary Clinton looked past the obvious enemy — radical Islamic terror — and instead said ‘weapons of war have no place on our streets’ and that we need to ban AR-15s immediately. AR-15s are fine for Hillary and her family. They’ve been protected by armed guards who use them for three decades. But [for] average Americans who watch the news and feel genuine fear for their safety and their families’ safety — Hillary wants to deny them the level of protection she insists upon for herself.”

What did you think of Raso’s “Best Defense Against Terror” video?

  1. Dom Raso is an NRA stooge. He’s considering every mass shooting to be a terrorist act. All evidence points to the Orlando shooting being something other than a “radical Islamic” terrorist attack. The evidence of this is that the shooter claimed allegiance to three Islamic terrorist groups, each of which claims the other two to be their mortal enemies.

If you eliminate murder/suicides and gang related shootings, here’s what you are left with:

    1) Aurora Theatre – Twelve dead and 58 wounded. Weapon was a S&W AR-15.
    2) Sandy Hook – Twenty (20) six and seven year-old children and six teachers killed with a Bushmaster AR-15. This was the massacre that established that we are OK with massacres of our children.
    3) San Bernardino – 16 killed, 19 wounded. Two AR-15s were used.
    4) Orlando – 48 killed and 52 wounded. AR-15 used.
    5) Roseburg Oregon – 10 killed, 9 wounded. AR-15 used.
    6) Charleston – 9 killed, 1 wounded. Glock handgun used.

EVERY mass shooting which involved 10 or more deaths was the result of one or more AR-15s. With the exception of law enforcement, I have been unable to find a single incident where civilian use of an AR-15 stopped or terminated a mass shooting.

    1. Roger, your a fool and a dhimmi. Most, if not all, isis or islamic Jihadists are capable of being sodomites and Jihadists at the same time. All murders are acts of terrorism, that is why your a fool Roger. The political islam teachings in the later medina quoran and the hadith call you a liar. Go FTF with Dom if you have the courage.

    2. “EVERY mass shooting which involved 10 or more deaths was the result of one or more AR-15s.”

Naturally, you ignore “where” all these “deaths” occurred – in defenseless, huddled masses of sheep. Rendered so by the misguided thinking and mistaken “save us from ourselves” ideology of Nirvana seekers! That (non)thinking has given us, but more appropriately given the whacks “gun free zone” shooting galleries. The chart below illustrates the “real” problem:

      https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13407208_1150129685057177_2688019418184278113_n.jpg?oh=889db6c1e63c589972189b33e62fff51&oe=5808B029

As an additional “scary thought” for your feeble synapse machine to wrap itself around: With a vest of just 10 magazines, I could well kill many more, with just my one pistol, than this whack did with two guns! Have no fear, however, as, outside of “gun free zones,” I am one of those ‘law abiding’ CCW licensee citizens.

      1. You are ignorant of two facts.

        1) The 2nd Amendment is not designed to give you the right to overthrow the government. See Article III, Section3: “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”

        2) You will provide no significant resistance to a SWAT team or STRYKER squad.

But good luck with that MOLON LABE bulls***. You’re going to need it.

        1. The definition of Treason can also include excercising authority above and beyond that granted by the Constitution, and contrary to the national interest. Those that are determined to undermine the Constitution, and the rights granted to the citizens by said document can also be considered traitors. There are those in authority now that may have met that threshold!

          1. Sorry, but you lose. 18 USC 2381 states: “Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

However, if you can cite USC references to support your claim, I’ll reconsider.

        2. Hey Roger,
Did you cry to ban pressure cookers after the Boston bombing?
          Yea, I didn’t think so.
Pull your head out enough to see the real problem.

          1. Really? Really? You want to equate a one-off terrorist attack with tens of thousands killed every year by firearms?? Talk about moving the goal posts. Tell you what. When a thousand people are killed every year by pressure cookers, then I’ll worry about them.

          2. Hillary met the mark then as she was selling weapons to Libya !
You can scream “NO” all you want but it’s now fact !

        3. Mr. Whiteaker, you say that the 2nd Amendment was not designed to give us the right to overthrow our government. You are correct. They assumed that anyone automatically had that right. The 2nd Amendment was to try to stop the government from ever barring the use of arms, as Hitler and other did.

“To disarm the people…[i]s the most effectual way to enslave them.”
          – George Mason, referencing advice given to the British Parliament by Pennsylvania governor Sir William Keith, The Debates in the Several State Conventions on the Adooption of the Federal Constitution, June 14, 1788 Source: http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/gun-quotations-founding-fathers

“I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for few public officials.” (George Mason, 3 Elliot, Debates at 425-426)

(The American Colonies were) “all democratic governments, where the power is in the hands of the people and where there is not the least difficulty or jealousy about putting arms into the hands of every man in the country. (European countries should not) be ignorant of the strength and the force of such a form of government and how strenuously and almost wonderfully people living under one have sometimes exerted themselves in defense of their rights and liberties and how fatally it has ended with many a man and many a state who have entered into quarrels, wars and contests with them.” (George Mason, “Remarks on Annual Elections for the Fairfax Independent Company” in The Papers of George Mason, 1725-1792, ed Robert A. Rutland [Chapel Hill, 1970]) Source: http://www.madisonbrigade.com/g_mason.htm

“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every country in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops.”
          – Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, October 10, 1787

“Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of.”
          – James Madison, Federalist No. 46, January 29, 1788 Source: http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/gun-quotations-founding-fathers

I could go on and on, but I won’t. The problem is not guns or pressure cookers or bricks. Bricks can be use to break windows or build hospitals. The problem is with man.

          1. Joshua, you are spot on, brother. But quislings will scoff at the words of our Founding Fathers and the true intent of them, and will continue to ascribe their own cowardly personas onto Men that are beyond their comprehension. The sheep cannot understand anything beyond the sheep/wolf relationship, so the sheepdog concept truly eludes them. All they see are the teeth, and that strikes fear into their tiny little lizard brains, which is what ultimately rules their existence.

    3. Roger,
What type of gun would they have used if it wasn’t an AR? The determination, hate and planning was there, so you know they would have used some other type. There are dozens of other semi-automatic rifles available!
If they wanted to really do some mass damage they could use some of the many semi-automatic or pump action shotguns with buckshot.
But then the knee jerkers like you would be wanting to ban them too.
My point is; it’s not the gun that is the problem. It’s the person that is determined to kill. Any gun or pressure cooker can be made into a mass killer. Do you also think pressure cookers should be banned because of the Boston killing?

      1. Now, now, JRMD. You’re begging the question. What they could have used is immaterial. What they used was AR-15s.

          1. Hold on! We have a quibble.

Let’s see, the Sig shoots a 5.56 NATO round, just like the AR. It has a 16″ barrel, just like the AR. It uses AR magazines, just like the AR. It has a hollow hand guard, just like the AR. But it has a different model designation. It is still Sig’s version of the AR-15.

      2. A 12ga pump (or auto) loaded with 00# buckshot would be more effective than an AR15.
        AR15 – 1 trigger pull = One 22 caliber projectile.
        12ga 00# Buckshot – 1 trigger pull = Nine 32 caliber projectiles.

    4. Hey Roger,do us a favor move out of the USA,there are plenty of socialist and communist countries that you would enjoy living in. It’s liberals like you that are leading the country down the road to extinction.

    5. Could that be because people are generally forbidden to carry one? EVERY weapon is an assault weapon. That is the point. Ban the scarwwwy looking guns, and the evil will still kill. They will either “illegally” purchase them, or they will use a bomb or some other way to kill. It is not the item used, but the man. Man is a fallen creature. A sinner. The 2nd Amendment didn’t give ANYONE the right to keep and bear arms. If we have that right, it comes from God. The 2nd Amendment is not written to us, but to our government, forbidding them to infringe on that right.

      God’s Gospel:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10

    6. Roger I believe if you would do A little home work you would find out that the shooter in the Sandy Hook shooting used two pistols & the Bushmaster did not come in to play until the police searched the car & found it in the trunk. You can’t always believe
what you see or here on TV. Problems like these are usually caused
      from worshiping self.

    7. Most mass murder events have utilized handguns. The UK banned handguns, then they banned long guns, then they banned pocket knives. Now they are trying to ban pointed kitchen knives. The most common improvised stabbing weapon is screw drivers. Are they next?
The Israilis stopped terrorist attacks against schools by arming volunteer teachers and parents. The firearm armed terrorists were stopped by concealed carriers so the terrorists switched to home made explosives and suicide bombers.
The first mass murder in US schools used explosives. After Columbine and Virginia Tech the cops quit waiting to assemble over whelming force. They discovered credible defensive force usually stopped the killing of innocents.
Mass murders stopped by police average 6 to 7 deaths, those stopped by civilians average 2 to 3. History demonstrated that CCW holders are twice as safe as cops, cops are 31 times as safe as the general population. The Israeli model of descetely armed force generally spread through the population works.
Until the left started trashing cops the murder rate had been dropping since the mid 1990s. Now, in Metropolitan centers controlled by Democrat gun banners it is rising. During all that over a hundred million law abiding gun owners have been not committing crimes.
During the violent crime decline the number of guns increased from 200 million to somewhere north of 300 million. It was only when the the media and leftistoloticians attacked the cops the violent crime increased. Let’s ban leftist politicians and hold the press accountable when they recruit mass murderers and attack cops.
Gun control has failed around the world, let’s try something new. Something that addresses criminals. Something that works.

      1. Look at Boston and their gun laws there.
The problem with Boston is that a Democrat has ruled the city since 1942 and kept the black population in poverty.

  2. “Have whatever guns the bad guys have.” Absotootly correct! More appropriately, you need change only ‘bad guys’ to “tyrannical governments,” for a ‘complete’ understanding of WHY those “true thinkers” wrote that dastardly 2nd Amendment!

Personally, I need not ANY Amendment to ‘grant me’ some authority to exercise my “God Given Right” to self-defense, by any appropriate means! Anybody ‘thinking’ to render me defenseless, or a sheep, should consider carefully what that might mean….

  3. Rifles of all makes and models are used to murder less than 500 Americans a year (FBI). Knifes kill more than twice that…second hand smoke kills 41,000 adults a year (CDC). Smokes kill 400,000 smokers every year. I do not understand the outcry over rifles…these “if it would just save one life” folks are so ignorant of what freedom costs and what they themselves have to loose if their steemroller gets going.

  4. We need to ease up on Roger and his like and play nice! We will never win a battle of wit with an unarmed person!

Excellent video Dom Raso and NRA!

    1. Actually, it takes no wit to denigrate another person. It does, however, take intelligence to refute their arguments.

      1. You must be in agreement that anyone who breaks an already established law won’t be willingly compliant with any new ones. Murder is already illegal. I’m just trying to establish what your actual dispute is with the law and the Constitution. What is your view on established law. I already know your answer, but feel free to state it, in terms of denigrating established protocol.

        1. Following your reasoning, we shouldn’t have any laws. As you have noted, laws against murder don’t stop murder. Additionally, laws against stealing don’t stop theft; laws against driving drunk don’t stop DUIs. You have apparently failed to notice that the real purpose of laws is to punish those who break them.

I agree with the Constitution. I also understand that you and I don’t get to decide what it means. The courts do.

The whole idea that the AR-15 is Mr. Average Citizen’s best defense against terror and crime is absolutely ludicrous. First, not a single terrorist act has been stopped by Mr. Average Citizen. And short of self-defense in one’s own home, Mr. Average Citizen’s attempts at stopping crime frequently result in Mr. Average Citizen being arrested for breaking the law. Additionally, an AR-15 makes a lousy home defense weapon. It penetrates walls, kills unintended victims and occasionally injures or kills neighbors. A short-barreled shotgun is much better in this regard.

          1. I’m a bit older than most of y’all so I’ll state my views on the AR-15 as a defense weapon and also as a terrorist’s weapon. I, personally, don’t own an AR-15 as such. I do, however, do have a SIG-556 and a Mini-14 in the “gun room” along with rifles ranging from 17 Mach-2 up to .458 Winchester magnum (wanted to get that cannon rechambered to the .450 Ackley back in the mid 80s, me). I also have shotguns from .410 up to 10-gauge and a number of pistols up there. For home defense, I keep a 12-gauge pump gun with an 18 1/2-inch barrel and a folding stock in the bedroom closet and a S&W 629 with a 2.5-inch barrel on the stairs to the “gun room”. I keeps a load of rubber buckshot in the chamber of the gun and a couple of #1 buck shells in the magazine for any unwanted midnight visitors (that rubber buckshot works well on persistent coons trying to get into the cat food can, yes). If someone kicks in my backdoor at night, he had best hope I’m in bed and gets the shotgun. I plans to aim for just below the belt buckle with the rubber buck to get his attention and it’ll take me about a half second to get the #1 buck into the chamber in case he wants to argue with me while DW calls the sheriff. If I’m asleep in front of the TV and get the .44, I’ll probably do some serious damage to the intruder and wine cooler, along with the refrigerator and wall oven in the next room besides the intruder, me
            😉

IF, (fat chance that), I wanted to shoot up a school, movie theater, holiday party, etc., etc. my preferred weapon would be the pump gun. Besides buckshot (15 lead balls in each shell for #1 buck), I can also fire slugs, tear gas, explosive rounds, flares, etc. I have never had it jam (unlike the SIG, Mini-14, Garand or my semi-automatic pistols) with a revolver or two for backup. I can cram more shells into the magazine while it has a shell in the chamber and is ready to fire. At close range, it has been used to kill more than a few grizzly and brown bears up in Alaska. Since most of the people killed in these mass shootings were shot at close range, why would I need a weapon with an effective range of over 100 yards when a shotgun would be more effective?

  5. When the SHTF all of those liberals that are afraid of guns will die cause I will not help them.

  6. The witless often denigrate, intelligence is debatable. The point of view has many angles, and one opinion doesn’t necessarily dictate right from wrong.

  7. What they are really trying to do is limit the number of rounds readily available to a mass shooter. Has nothing to do with the firearm used. It just so happens large capacity magazines are available for AR15 and other similar rifles. It would seem to me that limiting magazine capacity to ten rounds would eliminate the need to ban ANY firearm. It would accomplish what the anti-gun folks say they want to accomplish by banning AR15s. The folks do have a point when they have a problem with large amounts of ammo being readily available
in any firearm . It makes it much easier for a nut job to do a mass shooting when they don’t have to reload as often. I own an Colt AR15 and could live with just 10 round magazines. As a matter of fact I prefer using them. Just my two cents worth.

    1. Feel free to limit your possession of magazines holding only 10 rounds. However, you will not successfully limit a determined murderer to a magazine size to less than 30 or 40 rounds. There are just too many out there. Evil will find a way.
Harden the soft targets. Gun free zones need to be responsible to provide the defense they deny to their customers. One armed guard was clearly insufficient. The gun fight started outside. How did the murderer get inside?

    2. But I use to take the metal M1 Carbine 15 shot mags and cut the lips off one and take the floor plate off the other and solder them together = One 32 shot mag. (yes it somehow gained 2)
So what you say about limiting the mags to 10 to keep the round count low will not work.

    3. Mr. Car, from what I can remember, most mass shooters either carry multiple mags, and/or multiple guns. They don’t tend to get knocked down during a mag change or gun change. People could have less accidents if we also lowered the ability of a car’s speed to 20 m.p.h. Fewer people would be stabbed if knives were dull. You do not hinder or punish all for the wickedness of a few.

Mags are often limited to 10 rounds, and the murderers still kill people. The liberals say, “Who really needs 10 rounds, except the military and police?!” So the “laws”(de facto) are changed to limit them below 10 rounds–say, 7 rounds. Killings will go on. The liberals will plead for 5 rounds. Outlaw 7 rounds from new production, switch to manufacturing of 5 only. The killings will go on. Ban all mags. Only single shot for non-military/police. The killings will go on. Ban all guns. People will switch to knives. Ban knives, people will bomb. Ban all chemicals. All baseball bats. All sticks. All rocks. People will punch and kick each other. Ban arms. Ban legs. People will nub each other do death with their heads.

Point? Murder is in the heart of man. Deny a man access to one weapon and he will use another or make one.
